ARC Raiders Best PC Settings:
More FPS and Less Stutter
The settings that give the most FPS for the least visual loss, what to do about Unreal Engine 5 stutter, and why frame generation is a bad idea in PvP.
Use Fullscreen, V-Sync off, NVIDIA Reflex On + Boost, frame generation off, and DLSS or FSR at Quality or Balanced. The biggest FPS gains come from Shadows, Foliage and Effects on Low. The short hitches early on are shaders being cached. They fade as you play, so do not chase them with downloaded fixes.
The competitive setup:
Right-click the desktop > NVIDIA Control Panel, set these once and click Apply. Leave everything else on default.
Manage 3D settings > Global Settings
Manage 3D settings > Program Settings
Display > Change resolution
Video > Adjust video color settings
Optional, only if you use G-SYNC: Display > Set up G-SYNC
ARC Raiders is built on Unreal Engine 5. The game caches shaders as it meets new effects and areas, and it streams parts of the map in as you move. Both cause short hitches, most of all in your first sessions and after updates.
Reviews found frame pacing good for a UE5 game, with little shader stutter and some traversal stutter left. That remaining stutter is in the engine. No setting removes it completely, but a fast SSD, enough RAM and a frame cap make it much less noticeable.
It is a PvP extraction game, so input lag still matters. Reflex and a frame cap matter more than squeezing out the last few FPS.
Before you start
- ✓Install the game on an SSD, NVMe if possible.
- ✓Update your GPU driver.
- ✓Have at least 16 GB of RAM with XMP or EXPO turned on.
Step-by-step
-
1.Display settings
- Window Mode: Fullscreen.
- Resolution: native.
- V-Sync: Off.
- Frame Rate Limit: see the frame cap step.
- NVIDIA Reflex: On + Boost. On AMD, Radeon Anti-Lag.
-
2.Upscaling and frame generation
- Upscaler: DLSS on NVIDIA, FSR on AMD, XeSS on Intel.
- Mode: Quality at 1440p and above, Balanced if you need more FPS.
- Frame Generation: Off. It raises the FPS counter but adds input lag, which hurts in PvP fights.
-
3.Graphics settings
These settings cost the most FPS for what they add.
- Shadows: Low.
- Foliage: Low.
- Effects: Low.
- Lighting settings such as Global Illumination and Reflections, where available: Low or Medium.
- Textures: High if you have 8 GB of VRAM or more.
- Motion Blur and Depth of Field: Off.
- Ray tracing: Off, if your version has it.
-
4.Reduce stutter
- Play a few full raids after an update before judging performance. The shader cache fills as you go.
- Do not delete the GPU shader cache. Everything has to compile again.
- Close browsers, launchers and recording software running in the background.
- Set a frame cap so the GPU is not at 100%. That smooths frame times when new areas stream in.
-
5.Set a frame cap
- With G-Sync or FreeSync: a few frames below refresh (138 at 144 Hz, 224 at 240 Hz).
- Without them: an FPS you hold most of the time. In-game or Reflex limiters add less delay than RTSS.
Check that it worked
- ✓GPU usage below 100% with your cap set (check the NVIDIA App or Adrenalin overlay).
- ✓Hitches get rarer after your first few raids on a new patch.
What does not work (and why)
✗ Engine.ini edits fix UE5 stutter
Many ini "fixes" are copied between Unreal games. Some are ignored, updates can reset them, and changing game files is a risk with anti-cheat.
✗ Frame generation is fine for PvP
It adds input lag and the extra frames do not respond to your mouse. Keep it off.
✗ Clearing the shader cache fixes stutter
It causes more stutter until the cache is rebuilt. Only clear it if it is corrupted.
✗ More RAM removes all stutter
16 GB is enough for most players. Traversal stutter is in the engine, and fast RAM helps more than extra RAM.
The parts that depend on your exact hardware
Everything above is free and safe on any PC. The parts below depend on your exact CPU, RAM, motherboard and games, so they need live testing. That is what a 1-on-1 YTUNE session covers:
- ✓RAM timing tuning, which helps UE5 streaming and 1% lows
- ✓CPU tuning for your exact chip
- ✓Storage and driver latency checks if hitches stay after the cache is built
